#MyrtleMondays: A Sneak Peek at In Myrtle Peril, coming October 4

Hello, Myrtle Fans! Are you ready for a glimpse at the next Myrtle Hardcastle Mystery, coming October 4, 2022? Well, look no further, because I’ve got one for you!

I can’t show you everything yet, of course, and I’ll be revealing much more about Myrtle’s fourth misadventure in Victorian criminology over the coming months. But since I have the typeset proofs of the manuscript in hand, I can share this first exciting peek at the interiors of Myrtle’s most perilous case to date!

The erudite H.M. Hardcastle returns with all-new pithy epigraphs

These books seem to get even more beautiful with each new volume. Designer Carla Weise continues to do an amazing job on this series, helped along with some splendid interior artwork by Brett Helquist.  The spot illustrations adorning each chapter are some of my very most favorite aspects of the series, and I’m thrilled that for In Myrtle Peril, Brett opted for one of the larger items to make an appearance in the story this time!

I can’t share the glorious new cover yet, but I can promise it has more of the Best Things Ever, including an amazing glimpse of a certain character in her natural habitat.

Oh, and it’s purple:

Because I know you want to start buying fabric to match

In Myrtle Peril (Myrtle Hardcastle Mysteries #4) is now available for pre-order, which means I can also share more of what’s in store for Myrtle, Miss Judson, and Peony:

Myrtle Hardcastle—twelve-year-old Victorian Amateur Detective—returns to investigate the case of a missing heiress lost at sea, an inquiry that runs aground when a murder in plain sight has no apparent victim.

When a mysterious girl attempts to stake her claim to the Snowcroft family fortune, Myrtle Hardcastle’s father, a lawyer, is asked to help prove—or disprove—the girl’s identity. Is this truly Ethel Snowcroft, believed to be lost at sea with her parents, or a con artist chasing a windfall? Mr. Hardcastle’s pursuit of the case takes a detour when he’s hospitalized for a tonsillectomy—only to witness a murder. Or does he? With no body at the scene, Myrtle and her governess, Miss Judson, fear the so-called murder was a feverish delusion—until a critical piece of evidence appears.

But where’s the victim? And who at the hospital could be harboring murderous intent? Myrtle is determined to find out before the killer comes after her father.

With stakes this high, her sleuthing has put Myrtle, her family, and the patients and staff at the Royal Swinburne Hospital In Myrtle Peril.

You think you’re eager for the release? These little white paws are tapping with no forbearance whatsoever…

Oooh, exciting!! Now if you’ll excuse me, Peony and I have some sewing to do. I mean proofreading. Yes. Proofreading. Well, maybe some purple fabric shopping. After all, there are only 218 days until the release of In Myrtle Peril
