I spent this weekend in a magnificent flurry of cosplay and genre fandom! Kansas City’s hometown pop culture convention, Planet Comicon 2023 broke all sorts of records, including its largest ever attendance, some fabulous firsts for me, and Most Kittens at a Con.
Planet Comicon is the Midwest’s largest con and annually one of the most-attended events in the metro. I am honored to have been invited back as a guest for this year’s show! I met some incredible fans of all ages, including ten-year-old Harper, who shares my (and Myrtle’s) birthday, and eleven-year-old Pen—an aptly-named young writer!
Some more big-name Myrtle fans I got to hang out with…
And, naturally, there was some cosplaying…
The best part, of course, was the legion of fans who came by the booth to tell me how much they’re loving the Myrtle Hardcastle Mysteries. Librarians, teachers, and booksellers from across the country shared their students’ and patrons’ love for the series, and both longtime fans and brand-new readers walked away with ALL MY COPIES of every book I brought. My inventory is completely depleted, and I couldn’t be happier.
Huge thanks to the amazing crew of not-so-behind-the-scenes staff and volunteers who kept the show running smoothly and made the guests and vendors feel like we were all on Celebrity Row. (William Shatner who?)
Planet Comicon returns to the Kansas City Convention Center March 8-10, 2024, and I promise I’ll bring more books. See you then!
This is such a fun post to read after the Planet Comicon.
Love all your regalia! And (no surprise) love that your books were in high demand! Thanks for sharing the pics. ❤️
